Carlos Loyola, Argentine Tango Master
Carlos' professional experience is amassed from many years of dance training in several styles of dance. He has worked with the Official Ballet of Cordoba, the Ontario Ballet Theater, the Ottawa Ballet, and the Theatre Ballet of Canada. He has studied Tango with Chiquito Gonzales in Cordoba, and Ballet with Silvia Sefanelli and Carlos Augusto Flores. As a Ballet dancer, Loyola worked under the direction of international modern and classical choreographers, such as Lidia Segni, Lyde Peralta, Enrique Gutierrez, Lawrence Gradus and the former principal dancer of the National Ballet of Canada. Frank Augustyn. Carlos has had the honour of performing many classic roles such as Corsair, the Faun of Walpurgis Night, and the Corregidor of Three-cornered Hat. Carlos also danced modern and neoclassical works such as "Bella", choreographed by the Canadian director Danny Grossman, and "Mobile" by Tom Ruud from the San Francisco Ballet.
In recent years, Carlos has funneled his stage experiences into his passion for the Argentine Tango. He has the cultural understanding of Argentina, his native country, together with the sense of grace and passion necessary to communicate to his students the intricacies of the dance. He is intimately familiar with Tango's various forms, from "Show Tango" to the traditional "Milonguero" style of Tango. Carlos has previously taught in Montreal where he founded La Tangueria, which continues to be the most prestigious Tango club in Montreal.
He began teaching Argentine Tango in Vancouver, in 1992, where he remains in demand not only for stage and television performances, but also for his instruction in both general and private classes. His extensive dance background and personable style draw men and women of all ages to learn and practice the Argentine Tango in a friendly, supportive atmosphere. "I can teach anyone who can walk to dance Tango," Carlos declares - and the proof is in the skill and grace displayed by his students each time they dance.
Aside from his mastery of Tango, Carlos is also an impeccable Salsa dancer, which he studied in the Dominican Republic. His vast expertise as a Salsa and Tango instructor has been complemented by his training in Pilates Technique, Modern Dance, and Therapeutic Recreation, which he studied as part of the Leisure Studies Program at Concordia University in Montreal. Carlos, in his desire to continue improving himself studied at Langara College in Vancouver, where he obtained a diploma in International Business.
He returned to his passion, however, and is currently focusing on teaching Tango classes as an independent instructor at several locations around Vancouver. Carlos is also available for private lessons in Salsa and Ballet upon request.
